What precautions should be taken when using a foot-operated compressor nebulizer?

2025-06-06

1. Preparation before operation and equipment inspection
Inspection of pedal components: confirm that the pedal air pump connection pipe of the foot-operated compressor nebulizer is not damaged, the interface is not leaking, and the air pressure output is stable when stepping on it.
Nebulizer cup and catheter: Check the sealing of the nebulizer cup and whether the catheter is aging (no cracks when pinched), and ensure that all components are tightly connected to prevent drug leakage.
Standard use of drugs——
Precise dosage: Inject the drug solution according to the doctor's instructions to avoid overdose (generally ≤8mL per time), and prohibit the use of oily drugs (such as essential oils) to avoid clogging the nebulizer.
Pretreatment of drug solution: Viscous drug solution needs to be diluted with physiological saline to prevent particles from being too large to affect the nebulization efficiency.

2. Key specifications during operation
Ventilation of the use environment: stay away from dust and smoke to avoid inhalation of pollutants with drugs.
Posture management: The patient sits upright or semi-recumbent (parents need to hold infants and young children), and the medicine cup is kept upright to prevent the medicine from pouring back.
Foot pedal operation skills-
Rhythm control: Pedal at a constant speed (about 60 times/minute) to maintain a stable airflow; avoid sudden changes in air pressure due to sudden stomping, which affects the uniformity of atomized particles.
Breathing coordination: Instruct the patient to take a deep and slow breath (inhalation time ≥3 seconds), hold the breath for 1-2 seconds at the end of inhalation to promote drug deposition.
Special precautions for children-
Mask fitting: Choose a mask for children, which fits the face tightly (to avoid air leakage), and suspend treatment when crying to prevent drug waste.
Time control: Single treatment ≤10 minutes to avoid children's fatigue resistance.

3. Key points for cleaning and maintenance
Immediate cleaning after use: Disassemble and clean the atomizer cup, mask, and catheter after each use, soak them in warm water + neutral detergent for 10 minutes, and brush the inside with a soft brush.
High temperature disinfection is prohibited: Do not use boiling water or steam (>80℃) to avoid deformation; white vinegar solution (water: vinegar = 10:1) is recommended for soaking and descaling.
Foot pump maintenance: Check the pump piston seal every month and apply silicone grease for lubrication; clean the filter cotton every 2 weeks and replace it every 3 months.
Atomizer inspection: If the amount of mist is reduced by >30%, the atomizer may be blocked and needs to be soaked or replaced with a special cleaning agent.
